Wow, I’m seeing such a large spectrum of feelings towards this song.
Sound – I like the Journey meets ABBA intro and the stadium feel of it when it breaks into the stomp/clap rhythm. I’d say the verses are okay enough, same with Niall on the pre-chorus. The actual chorus has that cascading stadium chords they promised I guess, I can totally picture it live. It’s really fucking catchy and I find it far less annoying than BSE.
Lyrics – I’m not all that happy with the lyrics. They’re more juvenile than I was hoping for as if they could fit right in on UAN. I find all the alright’s and na na na’s lazy and boring. And of course there’s this whole underlying objectification of women implication of it that can be perceived as problematic but I’m not expecting One Direction to suddenly become hyperaware of these kind of societal issues in their lyrics and understand why people would find them offensive. I think the lyrics are cute and I’m sure lots of het girls will swoon over them, I personally don’t find them very interesting and original.
Vocals – Not a big fan of the alteration of their voices. Louis’ voice drowns completely in his solo, obviously I would much rather they left it unmoderated, not messing with it would’ve helped lift the song as it did with Fireproof. And excuse me but Harry’s voice in the bridge is borderline unrecognizable. The song is definitely more overproduced and ‘safe’ compared to Fireproof which was to be expected.
Overall impression – I’m not hating it. I’m not loving it either. People have been pointing out that it’s a good transition song between the two albums and I agree. I hope (and believe) this is one of the more overproduced and juvenile-sounding tracks off of Four so that’s promising at least. I don’t necessarily think it will help attract a new audience but radio stations will love it. I hope they’ve made a killer music video that doesn’t involve girls.
*bully pushes you*
*you push bully back*
bully: wtf you piece of shit, that’s reverse bullying
everyone around you: yeah you cant fight hate with hate why can’t we all just be nice to each other
u know this literally happens right
kids get suspended for being bullied because they fought back or were considered a distraction to the bully it’s not just a metaphor it’s literally reality
i’ll take down nations. i’ll destroy men. I’ll fucking become the next president. I’ll make the next sistine chapel. I’ll find a cure for cancer, all while being the biggest fucking fangirl of a boyband in the entire world. because guess what??? being aware and socially concious and having big dreams does not correlate to how many times i dance in my underwear to what makes you beautiful
